wolfgang_dreher
Hello!
I just received my Canon F-1N with the Eye-level finder FN. The light meter works fine, but if I turn on the viewfinder light, the meter reads several f-stops more. I couldn't find anything about this in the manual. Is this behavior correct?
Thank you a lot for your responeses in advance.
Best regards
Wolfgang
john_tran14
You should check if the battery is strong enough, or just try a new battery

tim_siekiera
no this is not supposed to happen. i have owned several f-1 variants, including 4 with the ae prisms and never had a meter behave thus. you may want to pull the focusing screen and check to make sure it is the correct one. i do know that the meter will be thrown off if the PRISM is removed and light hits the screen from above.
om a hunch you may have an f-1 screen in a f-1n body. if memory serves (20yrs ago) they were interchangable, but did not meter correctly.
also be warned that the f-1n uses a silicon blue chip for mertering and you can only use circular polarizers. the standard/linear will NOT meter correctly. (found out the hard way, 20 rolls of k-64 from vaccation)
luck, tim
wolfgang_dreher
thank you a lot for all your responses, it was in fact due to a weak battery. It probably took to much power to run the meter an the light...
Best regards
Wolfgang
