jason_andrew
Simple question, which 50mm lense is this and how can I use it with my F80 and D70? <img src=" alt="" />
I realise it isn't the D or G versions so what limitations will it have on each camera? I'm I better selling it and getting hold of the D version?

scott_ditzel1
Looks to be the original AF version...I have it & it works well on all of my film & digital Nikon's. Doesn't focus as fast as the newer version & the "D" version transmits distance info to the camera body which is good when you are using flash, but not critical...
jason_andrew
OK it is an 'F' model so how well will it work with the metering systems on both the F80 and D70? I'd like to use it on both cameras.

eb_lim
Hi Jason
I have that old 50 AF F1.8 lens too. I first bought and used it on my 801 (8008) and now I have used it on my D70s and D 700 and it works well. It is a sharp lens. I also have an old 28mm AF 2.8 works well on my D700 but when I want wide angle I usually use my 20-35mm AF D F2.8.
All these 'old' Nikon lenses still work with even their latest DSLRs that is what is sets Nikon apart from their competition. I still have some Nikkor MF F mounts that I use sometimes with DSLRs.
eb
CoryAmmerman
The only issue you might run into is if you use flash. I believe that you have to set the flash power manually, as the TTL flash metering requires distance information. Other than that, it should be fine.
eb_lim
Hi Cory,
Yes thats true, its not an AF D lens and you can set it ay 'Auto' and use it like the flash units of the old days. TTL Bal won't work
eb
