terry_evans3
Hello,
I want to shoot my first roll in my RZ today. The problem is that when I advance the film, the shutter doesn't cock. Also, the indicator light is orange.
What do I have set wrong? It's the Pro II, 210 APO, and 6x7 back.
Thanks for your help.
Terry
bueh
The lens' shutter isn't properly cocked -- unmount the lens and move the cocking pin as far it will go. Remove the back and test the camera in multiple exposure mode.
terry_evans3
Thanks Buch. The shutter was already cocked. I works fine in the emergency shutter operation setting. Perhaps it's the battery. It is a little low.
jim_momary
To check the battery, put the dark slide in and press the shutter release.
Steady red light = good battery. Blinking = weak battery.
terry_evans3
Thanks, Jim. It's steady red. Shucks, this is getting frustrating. Obviously, I didn't get to shoot today.
bueh
Huh? I thought the shutter wasn't cocked and now it is and it works? What's the problem then?
marc_batters
Terry, with what has already been discussed, my thoughts are leaning toward the possibility of a faulty back, or dark slide interface with the camera body. The camera body may think the film has not been advanced, or the dark slide hasn't been removed.

Are you using a standard "RZ Pro" film back, instead of a "Pro II back?"

Does the light go out when you turn the multi-exposure lever to the 'M' position?
philippderganz
i remember that when i put the film into the back i had to actuate the lever on the camera to advance the film until the number 1 showed up on the back.
philippderganz
is there film in the back? the rz does act a bit wierd without film.
terry_evans3
There's no film in the back, and it's a Pro, not ProII back. And, yes the light goes out in the M position.
The LED Monitor Lamp glows orange, the film advances, but the shutter doesn't fire. It fires when the RM lever is on M, but doesn't when it's back in the normal position.
Evidently, the shutter is cocking, but not firing normally.
Thanks for your help.
Terry
terry_evans3
Marc, good point. It's acts just as the dark slide is in, when it's not.
ericophotography
I experienced many problems with I first got my RZ. Not knowing anything about the camera I started dry firing, firing without this or that and moving the "R/M" lever. I learned one lesson. Don't do that. I never touch that "M" lever unless I'm actually shooting multiple exposures. I never fire the camera without film. I had everything happen, down to not being able to remove the lens when I was going throught that phase. This post may be evidence of my inexperience with the camera but I haven't had those problems in several years. However, your camera may be faulty.
