alfonso_montes
I plan on purchasing a green/blue screen and lighting so I can take portrait shots. The main problem that I am having though is finding a source for digital backdrops. Does anybody out there know of place that you can download (free is better, but I'm willing to pay a fair price) or buy on CD a collection of quality backdrops. Thanks in advance for any help. hal_bissinger
Denny (dennymfg.com) has alot of what they have available singly or a collection on CD. If you want free though you are dreaming...
blueviews
Hal: I think Alfonso meant that he wanted digital backdrops not actual ones. For digital backdrops I just shoot clouds with blue sky for example as one backdrop and put it a 20% or so as a Photoshop background. I have seen backdrops from Owens (I think it was Owens)but I don't remember the price, like $20 per CD worth. Bill
blueviews
Sorry Hal: I didn't realize that Denny had digital ones. Do they need you to shoot against a blue background? Bill
hal_bissinger
No, although a chroma key background would probably make things alot easier. As long as you can do a satisfactory job at separating your subject from the original background in PS (punch-out or silhoutte) you should be ok. roger_wong
Even with a chroma key background, you'll still probably want to use a program like Knockout2 to handle the transparent parts of your subject that Photoshop on its own cannot select (glass, wisps of hair, etc).

Example file is of my friend Newland. The middle image is the original. The top is her pasted on top of one of philg's backgrounds. The bottom is a blow-up showing transparency in the hair.

will_robinson1
well, if your looking for something like what was posted above why not do them yourself? I made the attached image after reading this post in about 15 seconds in photoshop.

ryan_furrh
yeah man..i feel the same way.. if you are going to use those space warpy junk backdrops, you might as well make them yourself. I mean, look at the first example where it showed the girl on piano under 2 different backgrounds. THAT is what its about. good work BTW.
suvro
There are plenty of sites that offer free backdrops. For example, check out www.FreeDigitalBackdrop.com . Most sites require you to register / sign up. This site does not need that, even for downloading full resolution backdrop images.
