red_robin
I've just purchesed not one but two lenses , a Jupter -12 2,8 & a Industar -50 3,5/50 M39 LTM . After payment I've seen some mention of problems. Anyone have any idea about them causeing damage to cameras? Is it that its a tight fit or 'ABANDON HOPE ALL WHO ENTER HERE'? Is there a Canon LTM RF they will fit?
JDMvW
There are some differences among various M39 lenses - both Soviet makers and Canon did not originally exactly copy the "Leica Thread Mount" (see Wikipedia at link). More information on the M39 scene at link.

On bodies that they fit and work on (especially the Soviet ones) the Soviet lenses can be incredibly good for the price. Alas, more people are discovering this and the prices seem to be going up.
red_robin
JDM , thanks for the tips , but is the canon p the only camera the j-12 won't work in or just some examples? How about a 7 or a VI-t? Is it the same with the industar? The articles are vague. Thanks RED R.
mukul_dube
The Jupiter-12 has a bulbous rear which prevents it from fitting many cameras. The same may be true of the 28mm and 20mm lenses made in the USSR.
matt_blomqvist
Some Jupiter-12 lenses can be used with Canon P. You can check yours easily by opening the shutter (T) and watching it from the back as you mount the lens. I've seen lens copies that very slightly touch the light baffles and some other that don't. It's a very close fit in any case.
Most M39 lenses can be used with Canon P without problems. I have two Canon P bodies and a small collection of Leica and Canon M39 lenses and never had any problems.
jeff_guthrie
If you are talking about the collapsible Industar 22, I have one mounted to a Canon P. It works fine, and does not touch the shutter with the lens collapsed.
