m m
Will a M3 style film advance lever work properly on a M6 ttl, or is the ttl's film speed dial too large? I think the too piece lever with it's plastic tip is kinda fumbly and just doesn't feel as good as the M3's.
jamie drouin
Each to his own. I prefer the way I can brush my thumb across the back of the M6, unfolding the advance lever in preparation for an exposure. The design also keeps the throw of the lever closer to the body, which is nice.

Best, Jamie

jamie drouin : photographs
jamie drouin
Ugh...I should have read the post better. You are talking about the ttl model...is it any different than the classic M6 advance lever?

Best, Jamie

jamie drouin : photographs
john_collier2
The M3/2 advance lever works fine on the TTL. It does hit the speed dial when the lever is home but in use there is no problem. I use them on all my cameras including two TTLs. They work great and I can easily advance the film with a flash or finder mounted. The M3/2 advance levers are only available with a chrome finish. Leica will not release the black paint camera's lever to us mere mortals. So you can either paint the chrome lever or just leave it alone and admire it like I do. dlegaspi
out of curiosity...how do you get the M3 wind lever fitted on an M6? do you order from Leica? is it easy to install?
jhodges
I was going to say that the M6 Jubilee was made to look like the M3. It has the M3 advance lever on it. I don't know how much they modified it though. You might be able to get a direct replacement even if the M3s doesn't quite work.

andrew n.bra hrefhttp
BTW, I've archived John Collier's (Nov 2001) detailed instructions on changing the wind-on lever to the M3 lever, in the FAQ I maintain at topic:nemeng.com/ leica/005b.shtml
karl_georg_wolf
Hello Marcus, I had an M3J-lever put on my M6 during a visit in SOLMS two years ago at no cost. The thing works fine and makes it a joy to switch from my 3 M2´s to the M6 ... Best regards

john_collier2
I have gotten mine from the Canadian Leica distributor with no problems (last one a few months ago). I have heard that Leica NJ say they are not available but that was a year and a half ago and I have gotten three since then. You do need a special tool to remove the bezel around the shutter release. It would be fairly easy to make the tool. Just bore a hole in a piece of brass, aluminium or steel plate (plastic?) and cut out the handle and slot. Or you can get it from: http://www.micro-tools.com/Merchant2/special.htm
rick_koo
Marcus, I have tried both versions/lengths of the M3 lever on my TTL and can confirm that the shorter of the two - I think it's the double-stroke - won't bump into the shutter speed dial. Also, the tool is certainly the right way to go in principle. However, since I wanted to replace the matte TTL bezel with the polished chrome M3 style at the same time and because the bezel was cheaper than the tool, I chose to accept the possibility of mangling the stock bezel during removal if necessary (it was).
