magnus2
Hi guys,
I would like to get a lens for shooting the ring shots in a wedding. I use a D700 and the only one nikon offers is the 105mm f2.8 but the price is a bit steep especially as I plan to use it only for ring shots. Ideally I want the 60mm as the price is much better and does the same thing.
Any 3rd party lens recommendation for the full frame camera?
Cheers!
ker_b
I am a strictly Nikon only lens girl, so I can't be of much help with the 3rd party lenses. I'm not sure what a steep price would be for you, but I currently use 24-85 2.8. For ring shots I just use the macro setting.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/207358-USA/Nikon_1929_Zoom_W_A_Telephoto_AF_Zoom.html
alex_dc
Get a LensBaby (I own the Composer), with the macro kit. It's a bargain at about $310.00 if you ask me. I've attached a shot to show what it can do on rings. This was shot on a D700.
Note you can see the reflection of the Lensbaby in the men's wedding band.

keithdunlop
The older Nikon 60mm AF-D Micro is a stellar lens for rings shots and other detail images. It can be had on eBay or Fred Miranda for $300.00 or so.
neilambrose
Sigma makes a very decent 105/2.8 macro. Used it myself plenty of times and have found it to be excellent.
richardsnow
I'm not sure why you think that the only macro lens Nikon offers for use with the D700 is the 105mm f/2.8. They also offer the following:

AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D $469.95 from Adorama

AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED $539.95 from Adorama

Both are great lenses and can be used on a D700. The only Micro-Nikkor that can't be used on a D700 is the new AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR, which is designed for use on DX format cameras like the D300s and D90.

RS
wedding-photography-denver
Sigma has a 105 macro that is stellar. I use a 50/1.8 with a nikon AF Kenko ext. tube (25mm I think) when I want that look. It's about <$300 and does a wonderful job. My other favorite, though not the same thing, is the Tokina 10-17 FE as it can focus at about 1" or something outrageous.
