anne_larson
I am considering purchasing either the olympus stylus zoom 80 wide (28-80 mm, f/4.5-8.4) or the rollei prego 100 wide (28-100mm, f/5.8- 10.5). Can anyone give me any feedback as to which one outperforms? I would like to have the wide angle option and a moderate zoom to better frame my subjects. While I am drawn to the rollei varioapogen lens, I am concerned that the rollei 100 may not be sturdy enough or weather proof enough for my everyday use. I plan to take it on a trek in Thailand where I may be in the elements, including rain and salt spray from the ocean. I have also been known to drop my camera on the infrequent occasion, and my olympius infinity S stood up to that infrequent abuse for 15 years. (When I bought it the stylus epic was not out yet, but I can't say enough good things about the Olympus Infiinty S - I have some amazing photos from it.) I have a Nikon n8008 and primarily use my AF Nikkor 35-70mm (f/3.3-4.5) lens with it but often give up on a photo because it needs the wider angle. I have a Canon Powershot s110 digital, but will be unable to recharge the batteries regularly on my trip. The Olympus Styulus Zoom 80 Wide also has night flash mode, and can switch to panorama - possible pluses in a travel camera.

dale_horst
I recently purchased a camera and was looking at the Rollei 100. Nice and small but I noticed it is identical to the Fuji Zoom Date 1000. (except maybe the lens?) After research I went with the Yashica T4 Zoom. With a 28-70 Carl Zeiss lens. I have yet to try it out, but time will tell. Good luck with whatever you choose!
