edsel_adams
There is much in the archives on this, also at the Mamiya site.I own both types, stopped down they all are fine.Wide open some of the "N"'s may have a slight edge over the older "C"'s. john lehman, college alask
There is disagreement in the sources, especially the internet discussions, about optical differences. My impression from the Mamiya employees' responses on the Mamiya America discussion site is that there is no optical difference.

pete_andrews
Some N lenses are recomputed designs from the C series, and some aren't.
I know for a fact that the N version 45mm f/2.8 lens is different from the old C version, (different barrel size and obviously different front element curvature for a start!), but as for the rest of the lineup, only Mamiya seem to know for certain, and they ain't sayin'.
It may even be the case that some of the older lenses actually performed as well as, or better than, the new versions, and that any changes were made for the sake of manufacturing economy, like using a smaller front glass diameter, or less elements. - Who knows?
Not all changes are for the better.
