CF or xD

<p>Which sort of memory card should I get for my Olympus E-420 - Compact Flash or xD? Or in more detail - what are the pros and cons of each sort?<br>

And is there any particular make I should look out for, or avoid?<br>

Faster, cheaper, can be used in other cameras and tough as nails - I washed one in the washing machine and lost not one picture... still use the card on a day-to-day basis. I have read second hand stories of XD cards failing, but never a CF.<br>

About the only 'con' I can think of for CF use is that panorama mode is only available with XD cards.</p>

<p>I just had a Sandisk 8GB fail and it was replaced by them with a new one. I just ordered a new M+XD for my e620 so that I may do Panorama shot with Oly Master software.</p>

<p>CF. Forget xD. Standardize is always the way to go if you can and xD is a fading standard from what I can see,can't find them so easily anymore at a decent price anyway..gs.</p>

<p>Definitely CF. They are much faster and are available with much larger capacity.</p>

<p>I keep a 1-2gig xD in the camera as a backup but use CF cards for all normal use. If I sometimes run out of CF cards in the field, it is nice to have that 1-2Gb as a spare.</p>

<p>CF cards have the controller in the card. xD requires the camera firmware know what size xD cards will work. xD may already be on it's way out as new Olympus cameras use SD to handle HD recordings. Write speed to xD is too slow. John</p>
