william_white8
with the 70-300 it helps to focus manually then use auto-focus.
The camera has to hunt a long way with the 70-300, so its a good idea to help it along
elnoralouisa
Your question isn't really clear. I have had absolutely no problem with flower photography with this camera. Couldn't ask for much better from a kit lens. One thing, are you trying to get too close to the flower with the longer lens? Won't work, it will just keep searching. You have to be a certain distance from the flower. You'll know that you are back far enough when the camera stops searching. Agreed with William about the manual, even though auto does work, even though you have to use single focus.
Greg M
Like Debbie said, there is a minimal focus distance the lens will focus that has nothing to do with the camera you are using. The 70-300 will focus down to the same minimal distance no matter the body in use. If you try and focus on something closer than that distance, the lens will never be able to achieve focus. Otherwise, you would need to be more specific and/or post examples of what you are trying and the results you are seeing., but the 70-300 does autofocus pretty darn close, especially if you zoom towards the long end of the zoom range..

arun_prabhu
I have recently upgraded my E-410 to E-620 because I needed IS feature. After using this camera since last few weeks I have a feeling that E-410 focussed faster than my present camera. This inspite of the fact that E-410 has 3-point phase detection system compared with 7-point in E-620. I extensively shoot birds. With E-620, I find considerable hunting and focussing problems while locking on a bird perched on a tree or on a pole with quite a bit of blue sky in the frame. Though I had somewhat similar experience with my earlier camera ( it is natural for a camera to hunt as it has to detect contrast with sky as a background) ,E-410 locked the subject faster. For your info, the lens in question is 70-300.

I wonder what members of this forum have to say on this issue.

Arun
t._masp
Which focus mode are you using? Also, have you considered exchanging the model? Perhaps you got a lemon.
