Finally, it's warming up here in the middle of the US. But our local lake is still half frozen. I pulled up a chunk of ice next to the dock, and it was still three inches thick. That doesn't sound abnormal, except this lake doesn't normally freeze over. It's been a very cold winter.

00VwZo-227007584.jpg.2dd2cc6245a71f4548a15ca5ba4bd6b0.jpg

I have to echo everyone else: Robert's and Dorus' shots, wow. Still out and about in the snow in the north eastern USA

Thanks Robert and Howard.. and Ben, I realize my comment about the dog might have been misconstrued.. when I said I'd hate to meet either one in a dark alley, I was referring to the dog and his owner that were in my photo.. That was a mean dog.. he growled at my friend from like 15 feet away, and she was not even walking toward them. Speaking of dogs, this is Sandy.. I meet her every so often near the Starbucks I stop at. She's adorable.. and will do admirably for my good looking girl of the week photo!

00Vx8I-227343584.jpg.b9aeec098dc19b9007f341aacb07674e.jpg

Taken from my last trip to Yellowstone a couple of weeks ago. This bison past by about 15 ft away on a chilly (-17°F/-27°C) Lamar Valley morning. K20D + DA* 50-135 @ 50 mm, 1/500s @ f/5.6.

There are some really great shots here this week. So many that I don't think I could pick a favorite (although I really like that cobblestone street scene). Here are a couple of mine, shot a long time ago with my MX on slide film, then "scanned" this week with my K20D and DA35. These are straight out of the camera, with only some minor cropping to deal with the edges of the slide mounts when I didn't line things up perfectly on the lightbox under the macro lens. Shot as jpg, AWB, AV at f/6.3, ISO 200 (because I forget to reset it to 100), pattern metering, center AF.

First off, the San Diego Zoo in 1984. It was hot June day and people were feeding ice to the elephants. Lens was most likely an M 200 f/4.0.

Next was a shot of some photographers in Venice, Italy in February of 1980. They would give you a handful of bird food and take you picture while you were covered in pigeons. It was raining pretty hard that day, business looked kind of slow. Lens was either the M 50 f/1.7 or M 200 f/4.0 (the only two lenses I had for quite a long time). This one was definitely Ektachrome, and it has started to fade a bit I think.
