Did Willoughby's go out of business?

Did Willoughby's in Manhattan go out of business? I have not been

there in about 20 years. I remember it as being a large store.

I actually went in there about 3-4 years ago. I remember them being a large store in the distant past, but what I saw there a few years ago was a sad joke. 60% of the space was devoted to electronics and the photo "department" was pretty lame.

When I first moved to New Jersey (not far from New York City) back in 1986, I used to visit Willoughby's about once a month. It was a huge store back then with a very large camera department, not far from Penn Station (Pennsylvania Train Station). Around 1990 or so it shrunk to a small camera department and I switched to B&H and Adorama around that time. Now B&H has a even larger store, also not far from Penn Station.

There is still a store by that name in the same location.

 

But, sadly, it's not the same store, and likely that the owners have changed several times.
