bill_morrow1
I could review a ton of specs and reviews, but I thought someone might have a hands-on answer.
Thanks in advance if anyone does.
PuppyDigs
I use both cameras and have to give the nod to the 5DII. However it sorta depends on what you shoot. For evenly lit scenes with lots of mids and highs both cameras are in the same ball park. Darker scenes--lots of shadows and lower mids--fare much better on the 5DII. So if you're a night shooter of street scenes, bars, twilight landscapes, European church interiors, etc., you'll much rather have the 5DII. If you shoot sports with stadium style lighting and need high ISO for stopping action with a big tele, the 7D is a better choice as you won't be dealing with deep shadows and mids.
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
bill_morrow1
Puppy....thanks a lot. I too have both, and intend to shoot something this evening.
I'll take your advice and haul along the 5D, which would be my first choice anyway.
Appreciate the response
robin_sibson1
At ISO3200? 5DII, no contest, despite the fact that the 7D is state-of-the-art for 1.6-factor bodies. Since you have both, Bill, you can confirm it for yourself.
ben_goren
Sensor real estate almost always trumps everything else, including megapickles and technological advances. I’d even expect the original 5D to trump the 7D in same-sized prints, though I understand the 7D does manage to give it a solid run for its money.

Cheers,

b&

dmanthree
Agree with the other posters, the 5D II is better. I've shot both, and there's quite a gap at that speed.
