john_kasaian1
Hello! Does anyone know anything about the Faircild K-17 Aerial Camera? One recently came into my posession, with a 12" Aerostigmat attached. I'd like to shoot it manually, and I've talked to the Kodak people who tell me 9 1/2" film is available. I suppose what I really need is a manual or instruction book(I am looking for pretty basic stuff, like where do I set the shutter speed and F/stop.) I checked with craig camera but no luck there, and I am trying to track down some WW2 aerial photographers locally as well, but until then does anyone have any comments, info, experience etc...they'd care to share? Thanks!
tom_perkins
The department of transportation (highways) in Nevada still uses this kind of equipment, and I imagine that other states and large cities have highway agencies which either still use it or know the names of the people who operated the equipment in the recent past when it was in service. Good luck.

john lehman, college alask
The Navy published a set of two textbooks for training photography mate (or some such rank) around 1948 of which one volume was devoted to aerial cameras with a large section on the K-17. I sold my copy when I sold my K-17 a few years ago, but you could probably find one from a used book dealer.
richard_boulware
Early in my photography career, I was a Navy aerial photographer before I went into the officer corps and became a Navy Aviator. I still have my copy of the Navy publication Vol.2 Photography, Navy Training Course, (NAVPERS #10372). If you would like to contact me, off list, and pay for the cost of the copies/postage of the section on the K-17, I will be happy to assist you. Richard Boulware - Denver. boulware-den@att.net.
