preston_harper
Saturday while shooting photos with my D200 of my children in the snow, the camera locked up and the display read "FE." Last night I changed the lense and there was no issue (though I only shot a few pictures). Does anyone know what the "FE" stands for?
Thanks
robert_delaurentis1
It probably means that the lens aperture on the lens itself was set to something other than the smallest f-stop. Some lenses even have locks that lock it fully closed. It has to be mechanically set that way so that the camera can control the opening.
elmroc
Preston....you sure it wasn't fee(2 e's)
Like Robert indicates, it means the lens aperture was not at the smallest aperture setting
Matthew Brennan
Preston,

I had what sounds like a similar lock up on my D200 (see p.net old thread here) My D 200 problem turned out to be an ever so slightly bent aperture arm just inside the mounting ring.

In my case I had been too rough mounting a TC on my D200 body and had just twisted the aperture arm enough to cause intermittant locking up.

If you are definately getting an "FE" message on the top LCD screen then it is highly likely the replies above are correct and you need to ensure the aperture is set to it's smallest setting and locked down.
jun_cordero
The kit lens on my D80 (18-135, plastic mount) is a bit wobbly and sometimes if the contacts are mis-aligned also locks the camera up - just can't seem to recall if the error indication showing on the top LCD is 'F--', 'FEE', or just '---' (might check this later today). If this happens I just twist the lens on the mount until the display looks ok again.
