dan_smith
Just returned from 3 days shooting from Boulder, Bryce area, Escalante, Hells Backbone, Burr Trail, Henry Mountains, Capitol Reef, Fishlake and roads to and from. A week and a half ago they looked very promising, BUT, a hellacious windstorm has left 99.9% of all the aspens bare as heck. No color, NO leaves at all. Same situation with almost all the oak & maple as well. If you are looking for really good fall color, try NoUtah instead. Maybe someone else knows how the far Eastern area of the state looks. But, even with 350+ miles on washboard & dust, plus all the highway miles, almost NO fall color shots to show.
phil_goble
I made plans about four weeks ago to visit Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I will be arriving next week. Your news is a great disappointment. Any information on the interior of Zion and the north rim of the Grand Canyon? Were they impacted as well? jlkphoto
I just returned yesterday(Oct.14) from the Bryce area and travelled through northern Utah the previous day. There is virtually no color left this year. As stated above, entire mountains of aspens are leafless! I got some nice Bryce sunrise photos but if you are looking for fall colors, most of Utah is not an option as of 10/15/99. One oddity is that in Zion canyon, itself, as of 10/13/99, most of the trees are still green along the Virgin river. There was a bit of color along the road in east Zion.
