William D. Lester
I have owned my F1N since the early 80's but it has sat on a shelf for the last few years. Now the AE finder display does not change when the activator arm is depressed. I assume it has seized from lack of use. Has anyone else experienced this? Where might I get it repaired, preferrably in Canada? Or is there anything I can try myself?
William D. Lester
joe chan
I'm not sure what you mean by the actuator arm but have you tried removing the finder from the camera and cleaning the contacts both on the finder and the camera body?
William D. Lester
This is not an electrical issue. There is an arm on the side of the finder and the pin on the shutter speed dial egages it when set to A. The slide on the underside of the arm then presses into the finder and should mechanically cause the display to change. The bar slides easily enough on my finder but the display no longer changes. Hopefully my description of the problem makes sense.
William D. Lester
rick_janes
A little bit of finger-tapping on my AE-FN has coaxed that mechanism into position...
mark_pierlot
Bill, if you live in Vancouver, drop me a line and I can give you contact info for a couple of people who should be able to repair your AE finder.
William D. Lester
Actually, I'm in Windsor, Ontario.
Rick - If finger tapping has coaxed yours into position, did it then move back out on its own afterwards. And was the problem resolved?
William D. Lester
chris_waller
I had just this problem. I sent it to the Canon service centre to get it repaired. In my case it was a purely mechanical problem with the linkage from the pin to the 'flag' which obscures the scale.
douglas_raymond1
Chris, how much did Canon charge to repair this. I found a repair manual on line and was able to take mine apart and free the 'flag' which obsscures the scale. The only problem I have left is the auto aperature does not work when 'A' is selected on the lens. Otherwise everything works. Bill if you search 'Canon F1 Repair Manual' you can find one for the F1N.
William D. Lester
Douglas
Can you point me to the appropriate manual. The search only turned up manuals for the original F1. Were you looking at a free manual? I am very interested in being able to resolve this myself if at all possible. I put a new seal kit in it this week and it works like a new camera other than this one glitch.
William D. Lester
