will_wrobel
I have a 40D and a 1d MkII that I use regularly, and the high ISO noise reduction seems to be in a similar range. Does one top out over the other, because the 40D is newer, but the 1D mkII is higher end? I have to shoot a concert tonight and want to put lenses on the cameras that will suit the quality of the high ISO noise reduction.
bobatkins
DPP will apply the same high ISO noise reduction algorithm to images from both cameras if you shoot in RAW mode. I believe that the 1D MkII should give you slighly less noise.
steve_crist
I agree with Bob. If for no other reason the logic that the pixels of the 1D3 are over 26% larger due to the larger sensor size (7.2 micron square pixels vs 6.4 micron square).

will_wrobel
After shooting and processing images (all 1200) I found that the quality is almost indiscernible between the two...go figure.
mathew_gardella
however, the 1D mk ii has 45 af points and dual memory cards to provide instant back ups. hence, my response 1D mk ii. if you are using a tripod, then the 40D, as the 1D mkii does not have live view.... good luck with the shoot.
