chuckunderhill Posted October 28, 2009 Share Posted October 28, 2009
Hi Everyone,

I am going to be working with a model in the next week or so, and looking at all of the images she has had done to date, almost in every kind of light, she has a unhealthy "yellowish" tone to her skin, something she has commented about. Having met her in person, she is pale. I was wondering if I use a gold reflector, if that might not help with the tones.
Suggestions, ideas, thought welcome!
Chuck
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark_chartrand Posted October 28, 2009 Share Posted October 28, 2009
It just sounds like they were printed badly. Correct the color in Photoshop like software. We used to use a gold reflector when shooting film (especially transparencies). Great for bathing suit shots.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
red_scott Posted October 28, 2009 Share Posted October 28, 2009
Yes the printing could be an issue. You could simply do some tinkering with your in camera white balance settings, to manipulate the color. A gold reflector seems to be a good idea as well. If you are using mono heads, or something, you could use different colored flesh gels to get the desired effect.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fullmetalphotograper Posted October 28, 2009 Share Posted October 28, 2009
The most important this is to capture the image as close in camera, to match what you desire in the final output.
If you have good image you then have a huge set of options to work with.

One thing to keep in mind a gold reflector is going to cast a golden light which means a yellow cast. See examples.
<a title="JillClean by FullMetalPhotographer, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2486/3748951688_5f18ccd7a8.jpg" alt="JillClean" width="309" height="500" />

<a title="glam2_127 by FullMetalPhotographer, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2610/3748163949_39917bc730.jpg" alt="glam2_127" width="305" height="500" />

Another thing you can do is some post work using photoshop.
In the images below. These images were shot with the same model with the same basic lighting on the same day but the post processing was different. One image was desaturated.
<a title="GlamShoot144122108 by FullMetalPhotographer, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3531/3183486375_000ced4d5d.jpg" alt="GlamShoot144122108" width="304" height="500" />

<a title="GlamShoot142122108 by FullMetalPhotographer, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3326/3175999035_f0d4bf646a.jpg" alt="GlamShoot142122108" width="261" height="500" />
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tina___cliff_t Posted October 29, 2009 Share Posted October 29, 2009
I seem to have this problem with people who have darker skin. Does anyone know how to get the tone to look more natural and not so orange or yellow?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fullmetalphotograper Posted October 29, 2009 Share Posted October 29, 2009
Well first you will want to do a custom white balance. I use a gray card. You also want to make sure that your computer and monitor are calibrated. This will give a good consistent result to work from. You then can make minor tweaks in what ever photo editing software you have.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
