mhahn Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009
I've just started scanning negatives with a Nikon 5000 Coolscan, and just noticed that I don't get completely full-frame scans. Negatives are scanned in their entirety along the long side of the negative, but on the short side of the negative (in between the sprocket holes), a little bit of the negative doesn't get scanned. It's just a very small amount, but I'm a little disappointed nonetheless.
Is it possible to get a completely full-frame scan?
Thanks,
Martin

colin_mattson1 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009
If I recall correctly, full-frame is possible with the optional strip film holder but not with the motorized strip feeder.

james_trory Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009
Yes, I think Colin is correct. I've only ever used the film holder and have never had a problem with the scanner cropping my negs at all.

mhahn Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009
So the FH-3 film holder is the answer. I've been using the SA-21, which came with the scanner. Thanks.
Martin

plasma181 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009
I have had very good luck with my Coolscan LS-2000. I get the entire frame. With a high quality scanner, you don't have to agonize over it. Just zoom a little loose when you take the picture and crop a little when you scan. With most film SLRs, the viewfinder doesn't give you the whole frame anyway, so it forces you to frame loose.

outlaw_roberta Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010
i use this

http://usa.shop.lomography.com/lomography-digitaliza

and it's probably the best thing ever.
