suzyq
I have purchasesd a SD-8A battery pack to add power to my SB800. Should I use only four batties in the flash unit itself or can I add the fifth ? The directions do not indicate one or the other.

Thank you
Susan
ShunCheung
When you use the SD-8a (with its 6 AA batteries) to power the SB-800, the flash will only use the batteries in the SB-8a to charge the capacitor for the flash. You will still need 4 batteries inside the SB-800 to power its electronics, i.e. the LCD display, the switches, etc. You can leave the 5th battery on the SB-800, but you don't need that for the electronics and it will not speed up the flash recycle time.

anthony_caciopo
I would imagine when the internal batteries only have to power the zoom head, the LCD, etc. but NOT the flashtube, these batteries would last a very long time. If so, I honestly can't see why I would hassle with the 5th battery compartment if I were using the SD-8.
