pbarnes
Are there any waterproof compact digital cameras with decent size sensors and decent lens that store in raw format?

bill_tuthill
The only alternative I know is to buy the Canon D10, install CHDK freeware on it, and shoot in CHDK's RAW format, which is not the same as CRW, but is perfectly usable.
jeff_bubis
Unfortunately, CHDK is not yet available for the D10. I can't wait until it is, though.

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/D10

pbarnes
Am I right in thinking that a waterproof case on a G10 means that the camera would no longer be something one could describe as compact?

What is your definition of waterproof?
Glenn McCreery
I use both an Olympus 7070 with a waterproof case and an Olympus 770SW waterproof compact camera for underwater photography (snorkeling rather than scuba diving). The case makes the compact 7070 quite large and uncompact as would a case for a G10. Although the 7070 shoots RAW exposures and the 770SW only shoots JPEG, I do not find this to be much of a problem as long as exposures are reasonbly good. Photoshop can make up the difference. I think that long shutter lag and lack of an optical viewfinder are a bigger problem when using the 770SW or other underwater sub-compacts. The LCD screen is almost useless when viewed underwater through a mask in scattered sunlight so my procedure is to use the lens at its widest angle and point the camera at passing fish with an outstretched arm and fire away. The 7070 is easier to compose a shot with since I use it with an external frame finder and has a shorter, but still too long, shutter lag. But since it is harder to swim with I usually end up using the 770SW. If I were more serious about underw ater photography I would invest in case (such as Ikelite) for a digital SLR. and then you need two flashes on external arms, and .....

les_lammers
Pentax W60 but no RAW. The G series cases are a bit finicky from what I have read. Google it. I have used the Pentax W's for a long time and they are decent. The W60 has better IQ than the W80 and both have better IQ than Oly. None of them are 'great' IQ wise. This is an option if you have a compact that does RAW.
http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/aqua420.html
