dan_b.4
I'm specifically interested in how quickly it focuses and whether you have any experience using it (as opposed to what you may have heard) for shooting sports action. Besides the focusing speed does it seem to focus accurately when shooting fast-moving subjects (as in soccer, basketball or football players)? I'd be using this on an E-500 body.
Greg M
I have used one photographing thoroughbred races with E1, E520 and E620 cameras. Locks on plenty fast and using continuous AF, tracking the field while keeping my subject in focus has never been an issue.

http://gmchappell.smugmug.com/gallery/8031811_ELQse#602882378_YSP4X

With the sports you've mentioned the action will be a little more challenging since thoroughbreds always move in one direction...forward, but as long as you can keep your subject framed in the finder and the focus point over the subject being tracked, the 50-200 should work. The E500's AF system will be challenged more than the lenses ability to focus fast enough on a body with a more advanced AF system.
