rob_strong1
Does anyone have recommendations for some free software I can distribute or recommend to wedding clients for sorting through the DVD of jpgs I send? Not for image processing, just sorting and selecting, a la Photo Mechanic. Something a little more functional than just using the Finder/Preview on MacOS (or whatever people with Windows have by default).

Many thanks,

Rob Strong
william-porter
I gather you're on a Mac.

On Windows, Google's Picasa is free and it's a very good app for browsing, organizing AND doing light editing - similar to iPhoto on the Mac (but in my opinion, better overall). Picasa is now available for the Mac OS.

http://picasa.google.com/mac/
rob_strong1
Good call, forgot about Picasa - and forgot about iPhoto too, even though there it is, sitting on my dock!

william-porter
Rob,
Rereading your post it's clearer that you're thinking not about yourself but your clients, and apparently you think they're using Windows. So I can even more strongly recommend Picasa. Picasa also installs something called Photo Viewer, which is just a way to view images in a folder from the desktop. If I double-click a photo in a folder on my Windows XP desktop, it opens very quickly in Photo Viewer, so I can confirm what it is. Of course if I'm just looking for a particular shot I can view the folder in Thumbnail view.

Anyway, Picasa would be my recommendation.
dawn_kelly
JAlbum - you use it to create a web based gallery that you then burn to the DVD, and it provides links to the full size file. Since it is web based it doesn't matter if the customer is using windows, mac, linux, or whatever.
