randysimes
I live in Sarasota county in SW Florida. I have read in depth on this website that the best way to gain insight into better technique, lighting, posing, etc. is to contact a local photographer and assist them. I have contacted two, one told me that he "does not train competition in his backyard" and the other did not respond at all. So this is my plea for help. Are there any photographers from Tampa to Naples that would be will to have me assist in any event, whether it will be a wedding, sporting event, beach scene, etc? My current setup is as follows: Nikon D80, 17-55 f/2.8, 70-300f/4.5-5.6, SB800. I have shot two weddings for friends and realize I have much to learn. I can send some of my work upon request. So if you are willing to help a fellow aspirin

cathy_and_david_bock
Randy. Drop me an email and I'll do what I can to get you hooked up down there. We know a ton of photographers around the country that have the same willingness to help others in this business that we do. We don't ever see other photographers as competition (that's just plain RUDE) but rather a source for referrals and knew ideas in the industry. :)
MODERATOR NOTE: Cathy and David - please do not put personal info (emails) in posts. Just tell people to click on your name for personal info.
steve_c.5
I'm in Tallahassee, so a bit far from you, but I do work with other shooters who are talented and promising. What those other guys fail to realize is that instead of shying away from "competition", they should actually be networking with their competition. If I had every booking in town, I'd never be able to shoot them all. I send my overflow to other shooters, and ask them to do the same for me. It all works out, and everyone gets work that way.
aimee_pieters
Randy,
Check out your local associations and guilds. There are a number of them in Florida with guest presenters and schools all the time. It's well worth the investment...-Aimee
