Hi everybody.
i know there is too much written about this lens, but i would like to ask the next question after having read this link http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=216&modelid=11924 Does anybody have had a problem with this lens with a "ut" number higher than 1000?
Thanks for your answers, it will help me to decide to buy this lens.

My sample is a "UU 1109" ... no problems. IIRC, when Canon accepted the bahaviour as a problem, all owners of affected lenses were offered free repair. The production of new lenses was modified, so that this did no longer happen.

It's a pretty old advisory, but I hadn't seen it before. On my browser the pictures no longer seem to be there.

I too, have UU control number, so am relieved, not that I ever noticed any problem anyway ;)

Hola Manuel,

I have a UU0213, the uu means manufactured in 2006 02 mean February. So my lens does not have such a problem. The problem appears as many rays of pale light emanating from the source when used at 24mm and f4. This was a problem with 2005 before october lenses. Here are some samples: top is lens with problem, all other three are my shots of 24-105 and 5d 1/40sec f4 which is normal flare for such conditions and IMO it is fairly good or even excellent control compared to other cheap lenses.

Saludos

Much thanks, Enrique, for the examples and information. As I said, the illustrations on the Canon posting do not display on my browser, etc., perhaps because they're no longer there?

Anyhow, the only people whose English we object to on this site are those lazy s.o.b. text messagers who don't know where the shift key or the punctuation marks are on their keyboard. I read several languages sort of OK, but heaven help those who have to listen to me try to speak them....
