j. caputo
Do any of you locals here in southern California know of any old abandoned structures, mills or factories? I am looking to shoot some old carnage as a day trip.

Thanks,
Jimmy
craig_gillette
Nothing I can think of, not like what one might think of as the "rust belt." In the greater L.A. basin, especially in and around downtown (say around Vernon, Commerce, etc.,) property value and changes in industry, especially the transportation industry, are such that large industrial relics aren't likely to be left untouched and unused for too long. The biggest steel operations in the area are gone, what's still here is still in operation. That's not to say there aren't unused or abandoned properties, just nothing sticks out. The area east of downtown around and following the L.A. River south might have some areas of interest. Lots of TV and movie activity in the area. It's not necessarily a good place to wander alone. Much of the older Southern Pacific and Santa Fe railroad facilities are gone, what's still in use typically isn't friendly to trespassing.

There are some interesting old mining areas and some "ghost" towns in the deserts. These can be interesting but some areas are still being worked and they can be hazardous due to dangerous chemicals, collapsing structures, unmarked shafts, etc. Weather is going to be fairly hot in the desert before long as well.
