rosspennyphotography
I recently purchased a zenitar lens, that said it was canon mount, when i received this lens it was too small to fit. After reading some threads i noticed a lot of people were saying an M42 mount was the best thing to get, so i got one, only to find out that it would fit as the M42 lenses are screw thread, and this zenitar wasn't. I am literally stuck for ideas, could anyone help me out?
The dimensions of the zenitar lens are 6cm across and the connection is 4.5cm across. And the regular dimensions are 7cm across and the connections are 5cm across. Dunno if this helps.
I have pictures below in urls.

Zenitar Lens
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/zenitar_top.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/zenitar_top_2.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/zenitar_side.jpg

M42 Adapter
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/M42Adapter.jpg

Zenitar Lens w/ M42 Adapter
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/Zenitar_M42_adapter.jpg

Regular fitting lens
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/Sigma_canon_fit_side.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/roos_rip/Zenitar/Sigma_canon_fit.jpg

Cheers for your help in advance.

bobatkins
It looks pretty much like an EOS mount, but there are some slight differences I see.

I got my Zenitar with a M42 mount on it, then used an adapter.

As you say, the EOS mount should be 5cm in diameter and the three flanges stick out about 1.5mm each.

Could it be a Nikon F mount? That's the other common mount for the Zenitar and they maybe sent you the wrong one. I think the diameter of the Nikon F mount is 44mm.
If it's a Nikon F mount, then you can use a Nikon F to EOS mount adapter.
rainer_t
What is the name of your Zenitar?

A Zenitar-M2.8 should be an M42 version ...
a Zenitar-K2.8 is the Pentax version
a Zenitar-N2.8 is a Nikon version

There is a dedicated mount plate available (which I bought for my Zenitar-M) which permanently converts the lens to EOS mount ... but even with this plate attached, the mount side of the lens looks completely different than yours.
rosspennyphotography
The camera it is to fir is my 400D, so i guess its a EOS mount.
I'm not sure really, it just seems to be much smaller than the hole for the lens, but with the adapter it would fit perfectly if the adapter wasn't screw fit, as the lens connection looks like a regular canon fit.
rosspennyphotography
I just found out it is indeed a Zenitar N2.8 for Nikon, so the person sold it as a canon and it was incorrect.
Is there anyway I can get round this without having to buy a new lens?

bobatkins
I've written an article about using various manual focus lenses on EOS bodies via adapters. You can find it at http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/manual_focus_EOS.html

Luckily, Nikon F to EOS adapters exist and can be found pretty easily at reasonable prices ($10 and up). eBay is one source, though some larger photo retailers probably carry them too.
