Macro lens options for Panasonic G1?

The Panasonic G1 is on sale (instant rebate) for $900 including both lenses, 14-45 and 45-200. I think that

price might be too good for me to resist. But what about macro lens? I like the Tamron 90/2.8 macro but have no

idea what is needed for Adaptall to 4/3 conversion, or whether it would even work. The Olympus 50/2 macro looks

good but is more expensive and doesn't autofocus on the G1, either. Suggestions welcome!

Buy an adapter for any other camera system ie Nikon, Canon etc. List here:

Macro lenses for manual film cameras are cheap as dirt, and work great on the G1. A 50mm is good, because the G1 makes it a 100mm, which gives a nice working distance. I am using a Leica 60mm R lens on my G1. The kit lenses aren't great, the longer one being the worst. The little one is ok for pictures of the grandkids etc. but I am not impressed for serious photography. Cheers.

Hello

I am presently using FD by adaptor (but about to convert solely to OM mount) lenses and extension tubes. I have been quite happy with the results, and the cost is so small.

and becoming unfamiliar, the LP stylus

of course for the really fine composure you could use bellows, then you could have aperture control manually as per "normal". There are many suppliers of adapters and also groups which specialise in the G1 and adapters , so why not try one of them too to learn more about what legacy lens adapters can do for your photography?

As Carol mentioned, the cheapest way would be to get an adaptor for your Tamron's mount.

Vivek, the pen F 38/3.5 seems to have the same optics of the RMS mount Zuiko MC Macro in reverse. Any ideas? :)

Yoshio, Yes, I am not looking at their stupid teasers. Just get them out Olympus.

Akira, I really don't know. I have 2 versions of screw mount 38/3.5 and had a 38/2.8 (RMS)- they all could be different or the same. The focus mechanism and how it handles/performs makes the 38/3.5 pen F lens a joy to use.

I bought a Tamron Adaptall to micro 4/3 adapter from some guy in Poland. Ciecio7 is his eBay name. the adapter came and it was a little too long. I had to cut it down a little on my lathe to get infinity focus. Now I can use all my Adaptall lens with only one adapter.
There are many other options also. You can use the Adaptall to Nikon F mount and Nikon F mount to micro 4/3 adapter as an example.

I use three different setups for macro work:

- Pentax-A 50mm f/2.8 Macro, with or without Rear Converter-A 2x-S, on Pentax-K to FourThirds adapter
- Olympus ZD 35/3.5 Macro
- Nikkor 105/2.5 on mount adapter fitted to Olympus EC14 teleconverter

All three of the above work nicely with the Panasonic DMW-MA1 FourThirds to micro-FourThirds mount adapter.

Panasonic also showed a Lumix G 45mm f/2.8 Macro OIS at PIE a month or two back.

I use the old Canon FD mount 100mm F4 macro (with or without extension tubes). This lens works great on the G1 with an adaptor and even though it is MF you get to focus easily with the zoom feature on the viewfinder and essentially you always use it stopped down so you see the DOF.

I have recently purchased the Lumix G1. I have since acquired the FD adaptor so that I may utilse my myriad of canon FD lenses including my beloved macro. However I cannot get this combination to function. I attached the adaptor, an FD lenes, set the focus option to manual, set the dial to manual and switch the camera on only to find myself confronted with a message to attach the lens correctly. Am I missing something here / doing something wrong? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Glenn

good morning. I am a novice photographer and have just bought my first dslr (panasonic lumix G1) I have the lens that came with the camera and purchased an additional 200mm lens (Panasonic g1 lens) for wildlife photography. However, I would lke a macro lens so I could do better close up photography. I am confused as to what I can buy that will work with the g1 and what adapter would be necessary. Can someone advise / recommend a set up to purchase?

Since you seem to be just starting out I would not recommend fiddling with 3rd party lenses and adapters yet. The best option for you would be to use the macro lens meant for your camera, see below
