Dark Spots on Every Image--Sensor Problem?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that all the photos I've taken lately have dark spots. I assume that its dirt on the sensor because the spots are always in the same place. They are most evident in my last image with a relatively monotone and Spartan background, where at least eight of these spots can be found:
Can I fix this without sending the camera away for service? If I must send the camera away, how much will this cost? If this isn't a dirty sensor, what is the problem?
Thanks,

Yes, this is dust on the sesnor! I assume you are using a DSLR? If that is the case, get a rocket blower and clean your sensor. If that doesn't do it, get a wet cleaning kit and have a go at it. I do this all the time and it is really easy. If you are not comfortable, then send your camera in for cleaning.

Those are classic dust spots on your sensor. There are dry and wet methods for cleaning them off yourself. The least invasive is to try blowing the particles off the sensor (using a bulb, not forced air) with the lens removed and your mirror locked up. If that doesn't work, you might do a search for sensor cleaning here, or on the Web. There are many products for properly wiping your sensor with a liquid treated swab designed for your sensor size.

Rocket Blower will work some of the time but I suggest Sensor Swabs (digital Imaging Wet Sensor Cleaner) available from Photographic Solutions 508 759 2322. I've used them about 10 times and they work great.
