Contracts - Example/Sample needed

An "event" can be anything so you are asking for a contract that covers anything which makes no sense.

In any event, make sure that any sample is reviewed by an attorney in your area no matter how great and reliable you are told it is. You will also want to obtain information about terms you may want to include that are not in any sample you may recieve so they can be added. Searching the database can help with that part.

Most important is to be specific as to what you will be providing. If it is coverage from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m state that exactly. If you will be providing up to XXX number of images and in JPEG format at XXXX by XXXX file size state that. If it is to be delivered on a DVD within 72 hours after the event and color corrected state that.If you will retain the copyrights to your images but will provide them for a specified use for a specified period of time (like for a brochure for 1 year of reprinting) then state that.

A contract is primarily a written agreement so that both sides have a clear understanding of what will be delivered and what will not be delivered and this is the most important part. An attorney, unless they have photographers for clients, will be relatively clueless when it comes to what you need in your contract.

The attorney may not "know" "photography," but they almost certainly will know the way to structure an enforceable and reasonable contract that fits local contract law. Some of the language I've seen suggested as examples here has been awful and creates situations that invite conflict and argument.

Which is why one should research here and elsewhere for the types of things that ought to be included. Then sample language with an explanation of what's desired can be brought to the attorney who will fix it so that it works properly and as desired.

There are a few of us, attorneys, that are not that clueless when it comes to photography...LOL!. In any case, I believe Bruce and Graig's comments are really good. You should help your lawyer by providing him with the technical details of your work, so he can draft a good agreement, enforceable under local law. There are a good templates out there, but you might want to check them with your attorney at least once. Just to make sure that you are not missing anything of importance.
