charlie lemay
Brad,

A few years ago, he ran up to me on Market St. and raised his all brass M (I think it was an M3, but it all happened so fast) and shouted, "Older is better!"waved his gear in my face and then walked away. I was shooting with a pristine chrome MP at the time.

pc_b
Peter A: One could believe you don't know the Alpa 12 XY...
The pictured Alpa 12 WA (yours?) is a high-precision medium format "point-and-shoot" camera and obviously not built for architecture/landscape. Raymond Depardon used one successfully for his kind of laid-back travel reportages, with a 6x8cm back.

peteradownunder
PCB - Yes I am familiar with the XY and the Max - both outstanding machines. Here are some quick thoughts to expand.
I bought (this) Alpa as a point and shoot street shooter when I was into it. For reportage or editorial type work with film or a digi back ( the way I use it ) and matched to a Schneider or Rodenstock 24/28/35 it is a very fine piece of machinery for this purpose.
If you use a tripod and a simple sliding device eg from RRS etc - you can make wonderful stitched panoramas as well. This is the type of work I have been into for some time now - and now ther eare better alternatives to Alpa for this type of work.
The reason you can use this camera very well on the street in reportage or editorisal type work is that it is very handholdable down to ridiculously slow shutter speeds and still get super sharp shots. Hyperfocal reality ( consult the DOF charts) means that @ F8-11 - the sweet spot for my Schneider 35 digitar gives you 1.5meters to infinity acceptable focus.
The Sinar arTec is a new camera body - specifically designed with inbuilt sliding back, focusing glass and magnifier to be used with a digi back and offering inbuilt shift and tilt - specifically designed for architectural and landscape shooting - which is what I am into these days.
Of course one cant use teh artec for the type of relaxed shooting on teh street or wherever that one can use the Alpa WA or SWA bodies for - different tools different work.
Apologies for any confusion.
peteradownunder

this is a 50% crop with the Schneider 35digitar F11@ 1/15th and a 33 megapixel back - taken with camera held at hip level with my back facing the scene - the DOF is ridiculously awesome - the Alpa makes this kind of shot too easy ( once you get used to it and trust the DOF/Hyperfocal capability of the Schneider ) -:)
