ShunCheung
The Tokina f2.8 wide zoom is actually a 11-16mm lens. You might want to check out Peter Hamm's review here in photo.net: http://www.photo.net/equipment/tokina/11-16/

That lens has received very mixed user reactions in this forum. If you search under this forum, you'll find a lot of different opinions. Make sure that you search under Tokina 11-16, not 11-17:
http://www.photo.net/search/?cx=000753226439295166877%3A0gyn0h9z85o&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&q=tokina+11-16+inurl%3A%2Fnikon-camera-forum%2F&qx=tokina+11-16&sa=Search+This+Forum#1573
Peter_in_PA
There have been some QC issues with them, but not mine, and Tokina says they are solving it.

That said, some of the QC issues have cropped up LATER. I am going to re-test soon.
carl_becker2
IMHO a 17-35mm f2.8 Nikkor would be better for a D3. I sold my 11-16mm Tokina after I upgraded to a D700. I far I am happy with my wide primes but may still get the 17-35 Nikkor.
Peter_in_PA
I mis-read.

Avoid the 11-16 for the D3, get the lens Carl says. But for the D300, it's no doubt great.
ShunCheung
I also missed the D3 part, but there is no one great wide zoom that is good for both, at least as far as I am concerned. You need different wide lenses for different formats.
marek_stepien
You cannot use Tokina 11-16 on D3. There are two other options:
1. Nikon 14-24/2.8 - an Excellent lens, but expensive and big
2. Nikon 12-24/4.0 - very good on D300, and you can use part of the zoom (17-24mm) on D3.
stephen_worth
You can use the 11-16 on a D3 as a 16mm prime. No vignetting at that focal length from what I'm told.
