kendramichaud
I'm having a bit of a hard time finding good, in depth discussions of how each of the image adjustments work in Aperture. Does anyone have any good recommendations (in print or digital) on how to learn the details about what all of these sliders are doing when I drag them around?
I just read a really good article on the Recovery tool over at Inside Aperture. The article itself is sort of basic, but it includes this little nugget:

"The Recovery Tool works by recognizing detail in any of the three color channels. Even if there’s detail in one of the three colors, the Recovery tool recognizes this information, and rebuilds it into the other two channels."

I find it frustrating that the product manual addresses the same tool with only a very basic overview:

"Many images, especially RAW image files, have additional highlight detail that isn’t
displayed by default. Aperture provides the Recovery parameter controls to give you
access to that additional headroom."

I don't know about anyone else, but I find more detailed descriptions (such as the former quote) to be very helpful as I try to choose which adjustments are best suited for particular images or situations. The Photoshop and Lightroom crowds seem to be well served in this regard, but what about for us Aperture folks?
fred_hawker
I would recommend an Apple Pro Training Series book " Aperture 2 " by Ben Long. It will give you hands on training in Aperture 2.
It has helped me a lot.
Fred

chawn_crawley
The book Fred mentioned is the main one I have for Aperture, and it's the best one I have found so far; at least to get aquainted with the interface.

This is a pretty good forum to ask questions and read up:

http://www.apertureprofessional.com/
