polaroid film holder

The 405 holder is meant to be attached to an international/

graflok back in place of the ground glass. It can only slide nto

place if you have a rather forgiving spring loaded back.

In addition to the fact that it doesn't fit the back that is currently on

your Orbit (I believe you can get a graflok back for this camera

but wouldn't recommend doing so just for this) it is not my

favorite for several reasons:

1)The pack film it takes is available in fewer emulsions than

sheet film

2)It is smaller than sheet film

3)The biggie ..... IMHO while useful for framing and checking

lighting never attempt to check focus with this back as the

design of the packs inherently means that you are going to hve

some film curvature and will frequently have 'softer' focus than

you will with your final pictures.

OTOH the film is about half the price of the sheet film ...

Good luck

Hello,

I just bought a Polaroid film holder model 545. I haven't actually bought the film yet but I have no idea what it actually is. I know it is a polaroid with instant positive, and a negative for print. It contains two sheets (I guess, I'll have to buy the package to find out).

My question is: do you know any sites or threads where one can get information about usage and qualities of this particular type of film, and moreover, which polaroid back to get for test shots (ie package of ten).

ps I have a Linhof Technika iv

Thanks

My response is to answer comment by Rafael. I have been using the Polaroid 55PN film/print for years. My only fear is that in all of

the complications at Polaroid now they may see fit to drop this film

from their line. It is one of the finest grained films made. You do

need to buy a jar of Sodium Bisulfite crystals to make a solution to

clear and harden the negative after peeling it from the photo base and

chemical goop. (I keep a small plastic tank of water handy to drop the

negative in until I get home to the chemical bath). There is about one

stop difference between best photo and best negative...take your choice.

It is a great film and can sometimes reveal that the perfect shot you

thought you had lined up really isn't. It is a great way to check out

an important shot. Just a little pricey at $2.00 per shot but can be

a lifesaver too. Good luck and enjoy!
