<p>Frank made several road trips in his endeavour which would ultimately yield the 83 image collection that in 1958 was published as The Americans.</p>

<p>It would be interesting if someone retraced Robert Frank's route and photographed the same scenes to show how they have changed since the 1950s. However, most of the locations aren't known. The real things that Frank captured on film weren't just scenes, but people and the zeitgeist.</p>

<p>FWIW, next month, the National Gallery of Art here in DC will be hosting an exhibit marking the 50th anniversary of the book (see <http://www.nga.gov/exhibitions/frankinfo.shtm>). I'm guessing many of the locales will be identified in the exhibit, as is usual w/explanatory captions.</p>
