steve deer
Hi all I'm in London next week for a few days.... Any galleries/exhibitions I shouldn't miss while I'm there? Thanks in advance.
chuck_albertson1
There's always the Robert Capa exhibit at the Barbican. Photographers' Gallery is closed for their move for a couple of weeks---you might see if their bookstore is still open, as it makes for great browsing. steve_unsworth1
There's the Annie Leibowitz exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, and the World Press Photo Award exhibition has just opened on the South Bank. Some shots from that here... http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/gallery/2008/feb/08/photography?picture=332436241 Well worth a visit.
davebell
Also at the National Portrait Gallery, the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2008 exhibition. Very good, and very free. If you don't know London, some advice, buy an AtoZ (street map) and walk around. Nothing wrong with the Tube (the underground, metro for non-locals) which has been faithfully serving Londoners since roughly 1863, but its surpirisingly nice to walk around and get a feel for the geography of the place and realise that distances between stations is actually very small in central London. Have fun!
starvy
you did not specify photographic exhibitions. so i shall suggest the following - at the royal academy there is the wonderful exhibition of byzantine art. at the british museum there is the exhibition of babylonian art. HarryBaker
I second Starvy. The Byzantine exhibition at the RA is stunning. All the other suggestions are good. As a Londoner (though now living in Cambridge) I feel I can say that while the Underground has been serving us since the 19th century, it is much less efficient than it was when I was a kid and is one of the most expensive in the world. For the past year or more there have been major disruptions on the weekends for engineering work and usually only a few lines are working normally. Check the Transport for London website for planned disruptions. When the weather is good I have no difficulty walking from Tate Modern to Tate Britain to the National Gallery to the British Museum and there's a lot to see in between. www.robertgoldstein.com
There is an exhibition of work by Robert Goldstein at the Chocolate Factory Gallery in N22 on Coburg Road in London till the end of Dec, 08 worth taking a look.<div></div>

I never use the underground in London now.
andrew_sowerby
I like the combination of St. Paul's and the Tate Modern. Just walk across foot bridge.

wendell_kelly
There are some guides entitled "London Step by Step" that I found useful. These contain a series of walking tours around the city and outer London. They're generally available in the bog box bookstores - read the book and plan on your flight over.
