Used 24-105L

I am considering a used 24-105L for $500 Canadian. I have been wanting something to replace the kit on my XTI,

and it would be joining a sigma 10-20, canon 50 f1.4 and the cheap 75-300. I know I will miss the wide end but I can

swap lenses if need be for that and in the future I may just buy a 5D.

 

My questions are;

 

1. Is the price right without any warranty?

2. What should I be looking for to know it is still a good lens?

3. Would you buy it?

It's a great price - do you know the seller? The typical price for a 24-105L in excellent or better condition is about $800 US. Only new lenses have warranties - they're not transferrable.

I'll second James's comment, Ryan. If it's in good condition, CDN$500 is a steal (for you!).

That's pretty cheap. Either it's beat or maybe hot? The only time you see valuable items considerably under market is when

they're stolen or relatives are selling gear of a recently deceased photog.

Yea "relatives selling gear of a recently decease photog." Haunted lenses are no good. haha

 

seriously though, I bought a used 24-105 about 6 months ago for $875 but I made sure the deal was made in person so I

could check out the lens and test it. I also looked at his seller history on ebay and the site he had posted on. Buying used

lenses can be risky, but worth it if you can get a good deal. You just have to be real careful and know that no one is

accountable for the lens failure if it should happen days later.

 

Make sure you get some sort of receipt if you pay in cash.

Cheap is right, when I called he stated their was a typo... it was 900! I told him to call me when he came back down to 500, Its 960 at B&H!
