XSi LCD Protection

I found some discussion about LCD film protectors for other EOS models but nothing specific to the XSi. Should I

use a "sticky" film protector on the LCD? (When not actually in use, my XSi will spend most of its time in a Canon

EH19-L Semi-hard Case.) Any suggestions are appreciated.

There are non-adhesive clear plastic films that can be used. I know Giotto offers sets based on LCD size (at

B&H). They're pretty much the same types of film you might use on a cellphone or ipod screen. In fact, you can

simply buy those screen protectors and cut them to fit yourself, as they may be cheaper than a "dedicated" precut

film. There are also hard plastic covers made usually specifically for a camera body/screen to offer impact

resistance, which films do not. So, it's a question of what potential damage you're worried about to decide what

type of protection you're looking for.

 

BTW, the surface of your LCD screen is in fact a clear plastic cover to protect the actual screen beneath, and

can be replaced if damaged.

Thanks; that's what I needed. I've used the film protectors on other cameras but I don't really like them. As long as the LCD cover on my XSi can be replaced if necessary, I'd rather do without the protector.

In addition to what Henry answered, I think you'll find the built in protector on Canon LCD screens are pretty tough. My three cameras get used pretty hard and are 2 to nearly 5 years old now, and I haven't managed to damage the screen covers on any of them.

 

It's about a $10 part to replace.

Just curious, how hard is it to replace your Canon screen cover?
