chuck_t
I have a Bay III Rolleiflex UV filter. But when I compare to like B+W or Nikon UV filter, the Rolleiflex has the yellowish tint. Is it normal?
Ed_Ingold
Yup, mine's yellow too! It's probably considered a "Skylight" filter, which tends to be slightly yellow or pink.
joseph_wisniewski
Many UV filters are yellow. Most UV(0) or Haze 1 are pretty clear. Just about any UV(1) or Haze 2 is yellowish. This is an effect of having the "cutoff" point of the filter being in the barely visible violet, to make sure the ultraviolet is completely cut off. Brands that don't use the UV(0)/UV(1) or Haze 1/Haze 2 style numbering make things a pain. They may have picked a yellow compromise between where people would normally set UV(0) and (1). And the most interesting thing is that the most effective UV filters that I own are B+W 415, and they do not appear as yellow as some filters that are considerably less effective. I guess this has to do with how "sharp" the UV cutoff is. The 415 apparently just "switches off" after a certain wavelength of UV, while other filters "ramp up" to it...
