paul_p3
What's the chances that they, Oly, had designed a DZ100/f2.8 macro only to find Sigma had released their 105/f2.8 first? ;-) I know duplication has never stopped duplicate lenses before but if you've got finite resources and are seeking maximum return on same, I'd probably want to put out another lens that fills a different hole like the 35/f3.5 macro or the 25/f2.8 pancake or the 70-300.. or the 9-18.. etc.
ronald_moravec1
Oly has a 100 mm Macro, but considering the half size sensor, that roll is filled by the 50 macro. How many people want a macro 4x the diagonal of the sensor/film. That is a small market.
jorgen_udvang
Not a small market at all. The Sigma 150mm f/2.8 is selling very well, and it's a 225mm eqv. on an APC-C sensor. My most used lens on my now defunct E-1 was the OM 100mm f/2.8. Perfect telephoto lens for travel. I believe the 100mm on the roadmap was rumoured to be f/2.0 btw. nick_wilson2
Olly never made a macro lens at 180-200mm for film cameras, but other makers did and I thought that the concept was intriguing, albeit not necessarily compelling unless the non-macro performance of the lens was really good as well. The latter because carrying 2 teles about would be a pain.
godfrey
I seem to recall that in one of the Olympus interviews during Photokina the 100mm Macro was said to be planned for delivery sometime in 2009. Godfrey
mike_smith2
Hunt down and snap up an OM 90 F2 macro, it's a heavy old lump of glass with stunning build quality, it is a truly great lens, for macro photography you are better off with manual focus anyway........... one of the top three 100mm macro lenses ever made. If the E-Zuiko comes anywhere near matching it, it will be stunning,
