gwyatt
I am a wedding Photographer and I shoot with a D3 and over the last 10 weddings my card slot says there is not a card in there so it does not fire. BAD very bad. It has happened to my camera about 4-6 times per wedding... I was very lucky there were not in an important moment. If I take the card out and put it back in then it works again. So it takes me about 8 secs to pop it out and put tit back in. A long time for a wedding Photographer to have his 5K equipment not work. So my question is has this happened to any D3 owners or has anyone heard of this problem. Maybe I am just the lucky winner of a lemon? Thanks in advance!!! rnt
Hasn't happened to me. Have you tried the second slot? A different card?
joseph_wisniewski
I've never heard of anything like that... Is it always the same card? Always the same brand of card? What brand and model? Does it happen if you use the card in slot 2 instead of slot 1?
elliot1
Send it in for service. This is not normal.
gwyatt
Yes i tried it with 5 diffent approved cards with 2 in the slots and then with 1 in each and it did it with all cards and both slots. Thanks for your responce!
ShunCheung
I would use a flash light to inspect the pins in the CF card slot to make sure that nothing is bent, especially if this is happening to multiple cards.
gwyatt
Actully Shun I did that and they do not look bent. And yes tboth lots have done this with many good cards. It just seems the cards are not staying tight. Thanks "Elliot" I did take it in on monday but I thought I would just run it by this cool group of people to see if this was unheard of. I guess so. ShunCheung
Greg, it sounds like you have pretty much done all the self check you can do. It is time to send it back to Nikon. I have never come across this problem with any one of the Nikon DSLR I have used, but there has to be some defective ones out there.
gwyatt
Thanks Shun... Not what I wanted to hear but that is a very real possibility of it being a defect. Glad it is under warranty.
michaelging
I have not had that problem or in fact any problems with my D3, (knock on wood). I think it's a great camera, the low light quality is unbelievable.
gwyatt
Yes Michael I love the camera and have nothing bad to say about it at all. It is my work horse. That why I need it to work.
bjørn rørslett
Disable the setting that won't allow the camera to fire without a CF card inserted.
sdifaz
The EXACT same thing has happened on my D3 but not as often as you mention with your camera. I usually eject the cards and re-seat them and it works fine. Its annoying though as the camera is four months old and hasn't seen any hard work. Last time it happened was this past Tuesday and I thought to myself once I had re-seated the cards that its time to send the camera to Nikon U.K. as this is not what I expect from a D3 be it hardly used like mine or a work horse camera... It will be going back in the next few weeks.... Regards, Simon
gwyatt
Bjorn, Thank you for that tip. If my camera contiues to take a crap when I get it back from Nikon then I will try that.
