IS and Auto bracket

How does IS get engaged? Is it the entire time the shutter release is pressed or is it just for fist moment?

 

I ask because it seems like when I auto bracket, the 3rd shot (right now +2) is almost always out of focus or

blurry. I use High speed shutter and hold down the release for the entire 3 frame shot.

 

Now I know this could very well be me moving way to much but, I would like to know how it works before I work out

my trigger arm so I can hold it steady longer.

 

Should I press the button for each exposure to get IS working at its max?

On my camera (40D) its when you press the shutter half way (engages) and stays engaged for a second or so after the shutter is released.

Which body (and lens) are you using?

40D with 17-85 IS USM 4-5.6

You can use the timer to take bracketed shots, to avoid moving the camera when you release the shutter button. I don't know the answer to your question about IS.

The first and second shot are usually good. It could be the +2 overexposure is just too long to keep steady by hand
