Walker's Flare Buster - Ebony's Shade Clip

Has anyone used the Walker Flare Buster accessory? This appears to be a multi-purpose accessory. Walker describes it as follows:

<p>

"Apart from being used as a lens shield the Flare Buster is also useful for holding rectangular resin or polyester filters in position, holding small reflectors for use in table top shots or macro work and for holding vignettes."

Does the ebony shade clip have the same capability? Is its arm flexible enough to be positioned in front of the lens so as to be used as a holder for resin filters?

Walker's seeems to be the same from the description. I use them often,

and do not go out to shoot without one. They are very handy, no

weight, little cost answer to a myrid of problems and annoyances. Your

imagination is the sole limit on what you could use one for. It is one

of those things you did not know you needed until you have one.

You can get a thingamajig with two clips and a flexible arm for

pennies at Staples. I think they're made to hold copy. You put one

clip anywhere on the camera or tripod, and put a dark slide in the

other. It's cheap, simple, weightless, and brings hours of fun.

David, if this gives you 'hours of fun,' I worry about you. You

really need to get a life. <GG>

The idea of the flarebuster is great but I found that the "grip" of

the clip was not strong enough to hold a card flag of about 6

inches square. But for gels it would be fine.

I use the ebony clip and although not as "flexible" it is much

more substantial, has a stronger grip and can also be used to

hold the darkcloth over the camera too. It is more expensive - but

worth the extra (IMHO).

Since I can't get a dedicated bellows lens shade for my older 5x7

Toyo Field Camera (has anyone heard of one for sale?) I make due

with the Flare Buster and it's better than nothing. That may sound

like I'm damning it with faint praise, and I would prefer a true

lens shade; but the FB is very inexpensive and will bust that flare!
