richard_lingg
I'm upgrading my motley collection of film holders. They're about 40% Fidelity Elites and 60% Lisco Regals.
Does anyone have a preference between Fidelity and Lisco? If so, why?
Do you prefer the old style Lisco over the newer style?
Are there other options for 8x10 film holders?
terry_dvorak
Didn't Lisco and Fidelity merge, with there now being no difference between their holders? (someone correct me if I'm wrong) If it means anything, B&H carries both "brands" and prices them identically ($125/pair). B&H also sells the Sinar 8x10 adhesive holder ($375) and the Toyo 8x10 holder ($120). Interestingly (disturbingly?) all four of the above holders are currently out of stock at B&H.
www.bhphoto.com > Photo > Large Format > Cut Film Holders > "All brands" + "8x10" > "Submit"
Fwiw, I've never tried the Sinars, never seen the Toyos (but hear good things about them), and have owned dozens of Lisco/Fidelitys (Fidelities?) in 4x5 and 8x10 without any problems.
.................. terry_dvorak
A follow-up: I just went and looked at one of my 8x10 holders. In white letters it says "Lisco Regal II" and in the corner it says "Fidelity Mfg. Co., Burbank, CA." So I guess they are now one and the same (though I assume they were once separate companies if Richard has some of each).
.
bob_salomon
Calumet purchased Fidelity Manufacturing a long time ago. Fidelity makes Fidelity, Lisco and Riteway holders and has done so for many years.
Calumet is now owned by an English company and the film holder plant is still part of the same group. charlie_strack
I have both Fidelity and Lisco 4x5 holders. I prefer the Lisco because it has a depression where you stick your fingernail to remove the film and it works for me. On thie Fidelity it is done differently and is harder to do.
But that's about the only difference.
