Matt Laur
Or, shoot in RAW so that it doesn't matter, and just fine-tune later. If you MUST shoot directly to JPGs, probably tungsten is the color temp most suited to stage lights.
billy mitchell photography
Stage lights are all over the place. I would shoot raw and convert. If I had to shoot jpg, I would use auto.
john_beaver1
The problem with shooting in Auto is if they are using gels, it could fake the camera into a wierd color. In less they are doing something radical, like xenon lights, most of the lights used in a stage show should be tungsten based. Although this should be 3200K you will find that they will usually run lower, in the 2800k range. If you don't have the ability to shoot a few test images and adjust accordingly, I would start with the tungsten setting.
