gary_deschenes
Has anyone experienced their mirror falling off in a 5D. Switched between my 28-70mm to my 70-200 today and after a dozen shots the view finder blurred only to find my mirror fell off. Amazing !
jcolwell
Bummer! I hope it's still under warranty. Anyway, it's probably not too expensive to fix.
Ian Taylor
Happened to me too. Next steps seem to vary by location. As a CPS member, Canon Hong Kong fixed mine for free in a couple of days. Other people have reported long waits and some expense. Apparently you can fix it yourself as well, but usually with some guidance from Canon. tommyleong
its a "feature" from Canon :) it even has an official name.......... " mirror drop out" Can't believe an established camera maker of so many years can have this kind of problem But Canon has a free-fix. Just bring it to the service centre. Its a manufacture's fault. rhaytana__tim_adams_
Happened to me, too, after about 20K shutter actuations. Very irritating. On the bright side: Sent it in and they fixed it free, even though it was out of warranty.
carlos_miami
My mirror came off too, in the middle of a shoot back in April. I put it in my pocket, and reattached it by applying five small drops of super-glue on top of the five spots behind the mirror where the original adhesive had been placed. It's worked fine since ever since.
gary_deschenes
Thank you to all for the input. I'm sorta glad it could be a free-fix. But does anyone have a recommendation of a certified repair center in S. Korea - I'm close to Busan and Canon Korea has not responded to my inquiries. mike dixon
The official Canon repair center in Busan is located in Nampodong (close to Krispy Kreme donuts), but they won't re-attach the mirror. The only option they'll give you is to replace the entire mirror box assembly for about US$500.
savagesax
It's pretty common. Had this happen to me as well. The store I bought it at just gave me a new camera. If interested in this great store it's Woodland Hills Camera, Woodland Hills, California. I deal with a guy named Scott. Tell him Hi from me and he'll surely triple the prices.
