s_hassan
Hi I have a quick question for anyone or if Mr. Atkins have any info on that. I was trying to buy the 17-55/2.8 IS through amazon as recommended by Bob due to their good return policy and free shipping. But I can not find it on amazon as being sold directly by amazon. Do they still carry it? or if they do then does anyone know if it is out of stock and if anyone else checked about the availability time etc? Any answers will be appreciated especilly from Bob Atkins as he may know more about it. Thanks Syed
jonny_mac
Amazon doesn't necessarily sell all these lenses direct. The often resell if from another store. Get it from B&H or Adorama. Less shipping and better service.
PuppyDigs
Probably out of stock. Of course you might wanta ask amazon if you need a definitive answer. No biggie as there are many other great dealers with similar prices. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
JDMvW
Amazon often does have some of the best prices and some of the widely advertised dealers do sell there. However, NEVER pay outside the Amazon payment system. If you do you have no protection at all, and Amazon is not always very alert to scams posing as direct sales through Amazon ("e-mail me first" and then you get an official looking e-mail "from Amazon" that tells you to send a money order to Vlad in Transylvania). images_in_light_north_west
Use B and H or Adorama, both have good return policies and often better prices and no Tax at least in Wa. State
PuppyDigs
Okay, I bought my 17-55 2.8 from Amazon last year as well a couple DSLR grips and a 40D (plus a zillion nonphoto items). I've also bought many dozens of similar items from B&H. Both have excellent service but Amazon shipping is cheaper (or free if you don't mind waiting a week). Sometimes Amazon is cheaper or vice versa. Neither one charge tax in Hawaii. If it says super saver shipping available, it's from amazon. All others are outside venders. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
adam_gifford
Its probably out of stock and back ordered from Amazon directly, so they stopped listing it. It may come back into their listings when they have stock again. I've seen this happen with a couple lenses from canon, they never seem to have that many on hand. bob_osullivan
I don't know how much you'd actaully save with Amazon, but B&H is great with service, returns, pricing.

gerrymorgan
Oh, I see... yes, not direct from Amazon. I second the vote for B&H.
david_dorcich1
The lens listing is from adorama, the hood is from Ace Photo Digital.
