bob_flood1
My wife and I will be going to Alaska August 22 - September 2, and I'd like to hear your recommendations on where to stay (and where not to, if that's your experience). Our plan: 8/22 - Arrive in Anchorage and spend one night there8/23-24 - 2 nights in Seward8/25-26 - 2 nights in Homer8/27 - 1 night in Soldotna8/28-8/31 - 4 nights in Healy9/1 - one last night in Anchorage again before flying home the morning of 9/2. I don't expect Las Vegas strip-type accomodations, but we want them to be clean, reasonably quiet, and (ideally) trouble-free. So, can anyone offer advice on specific hotels/motels/B&B/cabins etc? Jerry_
The State of Alaska has a web site. Plus there was a travel guide (for 2008) offered in several magazines. You can probably request one to be mailed to you. You should have a good time, being there are only three 'main' paved highways in the state. bruce_margolis
Bob, there are many sites out there that can give you choices for accommodations. One thing to keep in mind, this is the height of tourist season so some hotels already may be booked. Here's one site that may move you in the right direction...... http://www.alaskaone.com/travel/acmmenu.html
william_bean
My wife and I went to Alaska for our 30th anniversary and went the B&B route along the way. In Anchorage we stayed at the Lake Hood Inn and out on the Kenai Penninsula we stayed at the Spruce Moose. Both places were excellent. Clean and comfy and I would recommend either one especially the Spruce Moose which is about 25 miles north of Seward near the town of Moose Pass. It was excellent. www.sprucemoosealaska.com E-mail me if you have any questions or need more information.
andrew_cary
A second vote for Moose Pass. Instead of Healy, I can recommend the lodge at Carlo Creek (individual log cabins) 12 miles to the west ofDenali. Healy has a really pretty canyon just east of Healy towards Sultrana. It is drop dead gorgeous with oldmine workings and old buildings in the little visited E. Alaska Range.
